If every decision is math, then better math produces better decisions. The Calculation is the upgrade to your decision-making operating system — replacing intuition, habit, and impulse with conscious arithmetic.

This does not mean ignoring feelings. PLT captures feelings as data — pleasure is a variable, not a dictator. The Calculation uses feelings as input without being controlled by them. It honors intuition while subjecting it to verification.

The four operations of decision math: (1) Addition — what does this choice add to your life? (2) Subtraction — what does it remove or cost? (3) Multiplication — what does it amplify? Does it create compounding effects? (4) Division — what does it break apart? What connections does it sever?

Every significant choice can be analyzed through these four operations. The results reveal the true nature of the decision — not what you hope it will be, but what it actually is.

The Practice: The Four Operations

Before major decisions, run the four operations. Addition: what does this choice add to my life? Subtraction: what does it remove or cost? Multiplication: what does it amplify or compound? Division: what does it break apart or separate?

Write the answers. The operation that produces the strongest emotional reaction is usually the most revealing. That reaction is data about what you truly value — beyond what you think you should value.

The Deeper Truth: The Math Includes the Immeasurable

The objection to "math" as a decision-making framework is always that some things cannot be measured — love, beauty, meaning. But PLT math does not exclude these. It includes them as variables with real weight. Love is a measurable force in the equation of a life. So is beauty. So is meaning.

The calculation does not reduce reality to numbers. It expands numbers to include reality. The immeasurable is still measured — not with precision but with honesty.
